This is gonna sound dumb as someone who's primary language is English but what're phonetics
Offline
Wait actually I meant phonics not phonetics
It's a way you learn how to speak English by studying the sounds and how letter combinations work. Basically, imo the "coding" for how you're supposed to speak.

From Wikipedia:
"Phonics is a method for teaching people how to read and write an alphabetic language (such as English, Arabic and Russian). It is done by demonstrating the relationship between the sounds of the spoken language (phonemes), and the letters or groups of letters (graphemes) or syllables of the written language. This is also known as the Alphabetic principle or the Alphabetic code."
"Phonics is taught using a variety of approaches, for example:
a) learning individual sounds and their corresponding letters (e.g. the word cat has three letters and three sounds c - a - t, (in IPA: /k/, /æ/, /t/), whereas the word flower has six letters but four sounds: f - l - ow - er, (IPA /f/, /l/, /aʊ/, /ər/),[2] or
b) learning the sounds of groups of letters (in words) such as rimes (e.g. hat, mat and sat have the same rime, "at"), or consonant blends (e.g. bl as in black and st as in last), or syllables (e.g. pen-cil and al-pha-bet),[3] or
c) having students read books, play games and perform activities that contain the sounds they are learning."

ohH
Iirc babies learn how to speak by listening to speech, copying the sounds, and learning to associate words with certain things like toys or people.
Tbh I'd probably be a lot better at Japanese if I could talk to someone who speaks/knows some Japanese lol
Offline
Yeah that's probably it. I mean I think that's how I learned Spanish lol (though we did see some phonics at my kindergarten) because I've never really studied Spanish haha.
We also went through phonics when I learned French? But it only applies to alphabets from what I can see apparently.
Yeah it's kinda hard when you don't have anyone you can practice with.

Like typing Japanese is nice but I think it's better to actually speak it lol
Offline
Idk Japanese xD
Offline
I'm aware lol
But you already speak/understand three different languages so don't worry about it lol
Offline
They're all with the same alphabet though lol and two of them are Romance languages lol
Offline
Nobody in my house understands Japanese either so I hate saying anything in Japanese because then I have to explain it rip
Offline
What's a Romance language
Offline
Oh oof
Idk I hope that when/if I learn another language (my dad wants me to learn Chinese if possible) I get enrolled in classes along with my brother so we can support each other xD

It's a language that derived from old Latin
Like Spanish, French, Portuguese, and I forget the other ones at the moment.
Offline
Chinese always scared me because (from what I know) each character is pronounced differently depending on the characters around it or something like that and o.o
Offline
If that's the correct definition I think English might be considered a Romance language because it uses a lot of latin roots (and greek) and steals other words from every other language in existence
Offline
I've heard it's really hard.
Well if I ever start learning it, I might as well put all my efforts into it, right? I mean what's the use of learning a language if you're not going to try to speak it well.
That said, I'm struggling with tenses in French because they're the same as in Spanish and *screams* I don't know tenses in Spanish.

My brain: Ok this says "mado"
My hand: A'ight I'm gonna click on the "die"
My brain: nO

HOW DO YOU SURVIVE LIKE THAT O.O
Ekjfhkdfsjsd let me look up a definition because I'm getting tired of defining stuff in my own words lol
"a verb-based method used to indicate the time, and sometimes the continuation or completeness, of an action or state in relation to the time of speaking. ORIGIN Latin tempus "time" The concept of tense in English is a method that we use to refer to time - past, present and future."
Well Spanish and French have more verb tenses than English.

Welp I need to go do my classes now lol
Grammar
Offline
OH THOSE THIGNS
AH YES I REMEMBER NOW

Good xD

I review grammar sometimes as part of my Language Arts but I don't have spelling anymore.
Mostly because I could spell everything already from reading hundreds of books since teaching myself to read at age 5 lol
Offline
Huh
I have grammar and spelling (more like learning vocabulary words) included in my English class.
Idk I've been seeing grammar since 1st grade. I also rarely misspell words (typos don't count) xD I'd say I'm good at spelling.
Yeah I could also read in English at age five xD
I've always been a bookworm Ig, a bookworm without enough books to feed on
Offline
Lol same I always have to wait for more books from the library
Offline
My local library sucks lol and the good books are almost always checked out
I read the entire children's section many years ago and there haven't been any new books in over six years lol.
Last time we went there I had to read one of the encyclopedias for a research and I am very interested by the idea of reading a whole encyclopedia.

:0 your library must have been pretty small xD the old libraries that I used to go to were big, so I never ran out of books to read.
Especially once I got old enough to read the more advanced reads.
Speaking of advanced reads, you should definitely read the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini if you haven't already, because the series is really good, one of my favorites which is probably due to the dragons in it but shhh
It's pretty intense at times with fighting and death and stuff but you don't seem to be bothered by that sort of thing lol
Offline
Yeah it's really small
Also it was supposed to have more books in English but do you think it has good English books??? No man.
I so wish for a large library haha. I guess the reading culture isn't very popular in Peru?
Ooh I'd never heard of that one. I've never really been allowed to get "advanced reads" except for a few classics, but that sounds cool! I really doubt my library has it, but let's see.
Idk dragons are pretty cool but I don't think I'm really passionate about them lol.
Well idk if my parents would allow me to read that but there's a chance.
Yeah I'm not really bothered by it xD should I take that as a random comment or? xD it depends though.
