Re: Cosmic Dim. (V. XVIII), You're Correct but You're Not Right

An unfortunate thing is that I keep on trying to make Run buffer than he actually is, which I will blame squarely on Hitan
For some reason Hitan is kinda built like a lot of different cubes put together. Dude is kinda square-ish idk. I guess it makes sense, but still I wonder how in the world he became this way. Like why is your face so round? Why are the edges of your eyes so distinct? Why do you have body volume? What the heck is your clothing preference brozy?

GalaxianExplosion wrote:

I never can really tell how Run would react if you tried to stop him in earnest that night. Like what if Kurome told him to stop for some reason. Would he stop. I think not but then I can't tell what he would do after that.

Adding as elaboration that you can't tell me that he's ever made the same expression as the one he made Kurome right after she asked him where he was going.
He's been serious before on cover arts and stuff, but outside of anything having to do with Champ, he never showed that completely dead serious side profile before. He didn't even react like that when he and Wave saw what Wild Hunt did to Bols' wife and daughter, or when Wild Hunt hung those spies' corpses from the top of that building.

For some reason I feel like he would appeal to Kurome's entire thing about what it feels like to lose a comrade or just. Other appeals related to her mentality/psyche so that she doesn't stop him,,, yikes
What makes it worse is that it's made pretty clear that Run only really noticed that she changed from the past on that exact day (when he reacts with surprise to her wanting to help take down Wild Hunt due to justice, and later again when he literally notes that she's changed while she gives her rationale to Night Raid), so he definitely would be targeting her weaknesses in this sort of scenario. Not all out manipulation mind you, just anything that would make her see things his way because this is the way he wanted to go about it and he was bent on revenge at this point.
Yikies.

Anyways, Run thinking Kurome is like a princess is so cute <3 focus on that instead (lol)

Also otome game protag really is attracted to red flags (to her credit, at least she seems to know how messed up it is)

Nah, dude carried her back to the Jaegers' headquarters
He started and ended his path for retribution at the same place,,,

Re: Cosmic Dim. (V. XVIII), You're Correct but You're Not Right

I also die a little bit every time I remember Run's two chapters were ended by concept art of Champ and Cosmina. Like really, guys? Did we really have to do it that way?

Anyways, outside of all the obvious...story stuff going on, I hecking adore the way Run carries Kurome. It's pretty much the only physical contact he makes with anyone and it's just so cute. It's like he scoops her up and hugs her, and you can tell how much he cares about her too. (Wave taking his hands doesn't count because that was initiated by Wave)

Also just to be clear, I say he cares a lot about her obviously because of the entire "corpses reanimated by Yatsufusa retain their strongest desires" thing (him stepping in between her and Wave when they're about to get into a fight, leading Wave to where Kurome and Akame are fighting, and taking a slash from Murasame across the hecking spine for Kurome), and also how he makes the instant decision to try to shield her from a literal Teigu fireball. Idk. Yes, he brought her into the situation (somewhat, though it was technically her decision), and yes, it pains me that Run maybe would have been able to escape the situation if he didn't need to protect Kurome at the same time. It's just sweet if you don't think about everything else though.

Guys, I might--and I do stress might--be able to draw Run now.
Ofc I don't draw him very well, but I think it's so much better than my attempts in the past. Though of course, without those past attempts I wouldn't be able to reach the current level.
Anyways, the point is that I'll keep trying lol. Check back on this in 3 months or something.

I think Run is pretty lucky 'cause he got to look at Champ and make his usual scary reaction expression before any of Wild Hunt saw him
I mean, if even Wave is like "holy crap dude, you ok??" when he sees you react to anyone who vaguely resembles a murderous clown who would...y'know. Butcher children, then your plan to get close to them afterward is effectively done before it even begins.

Re: Cosmic Dim. (V. XVIII), You're Correct but You're Not Right

Also kinda pains me to think about the possibility that if Run hadn't seen Champ right then (A.K.A. Champ wasn't a part of Wild Hunt), the entire fiasco with Wild Hunt might have been ended faster
I'm not saying Run would be able to kill them from the shadows faster, I'm saying maybe he prolonged the entire affair as an excuse to be able to personally enact his revenge on Champ specifically.

So anyways, notice I never said that I condone all his actions.

It also kills me how Wave will bow down to these murderous bastards just because Run did so first
He loathes every second of it but he swallows all his questions just because of what Run says and does and idk. The pure trust he has toward his comrade always has me feeling so sad

And don't get me started on the panel right after that where we see Run, standing upright again, looking toward Wave...
The intention behind the visuals always just gets me :')

Also also, I love how intentional the authors are with his feather motif (sometimes you can't see them clearly but they're obviously references to the feathers on his wings)
AND I love how loose his feather is (on top of his ear)
AND I love the ominous half smiley face formed by the background behind him as he smiles toward the gang of absolute murderous, heinous bastards

AND I love how he really is pretty much as flat as a board from the front lol it becomes apparent the more I stare at him and try to figure his physique out dude has like. No physique. I'm sorry. Chapter 48 cover art him is literally only so wide because he has his hecking Teigu under his coat.

Re: Cosmic Dim. (V. XVIII), You're Correct but You're Not Right

Btw if you really want to go with the thought of drawing parallels between the Jaegers and Night Raid members, it soon becomes cursed because you realize that since Leone and Run parallel each other, and Leone likes Tatsumi romantically, then...y'know.
Actually I'm just messing. (with myself. lol)

Run vs. Akame is one of the funniest matchups ever (if you ignore. all the stuff)
I like to imagine there isn't a single hecking universe where they finish their fight

(Like yeah the Gold Saints are 20-23 mostly but those guys were child soldiers lol the heck YOU doing?)

Y'all twenty year olds let me know how plausible that sounds idk

I know Run has talent and good looks going for him (kinda bad to think about but whatever, I think he knows how to protect himself so I'm not much concerned about that category) but idk. Bro is literally Bachelor's Degree graduate age IRL while Wave is a sophomore still in college or something.

Re: Cosmic Dim. (V. XVIII), You're Correct but You're Not Right

Btw I actually do like the idea that Run actually needed his glasses but took them off for Reasons
So he can't actually aim he just goes by silhouettes and goes for it /j
This is why he was able to hit the manta but not anyone else on the manta.
The only exception is when he sees Champ. He gets 20/20 vision then. As a little gift from the heavens.

Technically his frames might be empty, who knows.

I think it'd be pretty funny if he's actually just far-sighted rather than near-sighted, which I guess would make sense. Since Sheele keeps her glasses on for combat as a melee combatant, maybe he doesn't need glasses as a primarily ranged one. But he did react to Esdeath very well, so idk.

And yes, I am talking about this...again.

Re: Cosmic Dim. (V. XVIII), You're Correct but You're Not Right

I can't emphasize how sweet it is that he looks pretty much like he did in canon
He has a scarf, but long again just like his teacher attire in canon. But he has his winter jacket, again like in canon. Unlike in canon, it's totally closed, because he doesn't need to conceal weapons under it that he needs to take out in a moment's notice.
He has an expression that's more fitting for him than anyone else, that he didn't show in canon--a simply earnest, serious expression.
And his hair is fluffy rather than sharp-edged or extremely intentional in design.
Plus he has glasses.

Help.

Re: Cosmic Dim. (V. XVIII), You're Correct but You're Not Right

Idk why I was confused on why Run acted on that specific night
I mean, I kinda get why, but currently I can see 2 big reasons:
1) Wave beating up Syura literally that day. The Symbol of the "peace" between the Jaegers and Wild Hunt deteriorating. Run wouldn't able to keep up his facade of friendliness with Wild Hunt for long enough if any more time went by, so he had to act immediately, especially since he had no actual intention of joining Wild Hunt like he implied to Cosmina
2) Esdeath about to return. Apparently she returned within the week or something (can't remember the particulars). Her returning would mean Run wouldn't be able to act independently anymore 'cause she'd be giving out commands, plus I kinda think she would see through his ulterior motives to an extent and would probably get in the way if certain things lined up
3) plot reasons
