Btw I would totally recommend y'all read Lone Trail.
I think you can understand it without knowing much about Rhine Lab. Just know, science company, much iffy.
If nothing else, do it for the music. (Not me expecting everyone else to do things the way I do lol)

Oh yeah, I got God Cloth Camus.
Tell me, chat, is this telling me that he doesn't hate me anymore, or is he coming here to turn me into an ice popsicle? his entrance animation is him Aurora Executioning at the screen. I don't think it's subtext.
Also got another copy of Dohko. 'Preciate it, but this combo is so funny. Let's pretend I don't find any combo funny, 'kay? Anyways, God Cloth Hyoga came a while back, so now I can make them be on the same team <3 forced bonding!
I also saw a level 1 God Cloth Shura that I don't recall rolling anywhere. So. That's vaguely threatening.

Whatever I was gonna say got blown away by "Kami no En - Del Regno".
This, "Chikyuugi", "My Dear - Takusu no Mono He", and "Hana no Kusari" are absolutely unparalleled. And I say that, while Claymore was my second anime with "Guilty Sky - Danzai no Hana" as the ED. And then after that was Akame ga Kill!'s "This World That I Never Wished to Know (Konna Sekai, Shiritakunnakatta)" and "Moonlight (Tsuki Akari)".
Enjoying SS is sorta like the way I approach food.
The food is good, because it nourishes me, and there was heart put into it. I don't expect every dish to be jawdropping. Sometimes it's burnt at the bottom, or too much seasoning was dumped into it, or it's too much for me to eat. That's okay.
SS suffers from repeated, sometimes forced story. I don't like the main characters much, and the series doesn't get much love or maintenance. The characters are very basic, often constructed for the sake of a fight or make a point at the moment. But I love the armor and character designs/style, the anime character/setting/sound designers clearly put their hearts into making things go, the forced plot is extremely memeable, and the spirit of the series is iconic. I wouldn't have it any other way.Okay. Maybe a soft remake of the original anime. I wanna see Milo/Hyoga's fight without Milo's face contorting. Aphrodite and Shun too.

Every time I make one of the 14-year-olds in the AU go through it (it is capitalized, implicitly), I remind myself that the canon's protagonists get 55 cases of traumatic brain injury every major fight, so this is fine.
Then I realize this is probably the kind of loop that people committing war crimes go through in their heads.

Yu's event: Went through the main story. Still missing previous Sui sibling events (I've gone through Chongyue's and Shu's. I know very little about Nian, Ling, and Xi/Dusk).
Little bro gives off grandpa vibes.
As expected, it's the same Arknights event format. I wish it had more time to develop, though, because it felt like there were actually so many threads being woven that some characters didn't have enough time to shine. For instance, I loved Blaze's journey (and Leizi's...I barely know her except as Zuo Le's aunt), but Yu really could have had more time to shine. He mostly just got the barest of plot stuff.
Zuo Le is the hidden protagonist lol, he shows up everywhere. Apparently he works full time at Rhodes Island but still is working for the Sui Regulator too. Dude has it rough.
Despite that, the event's music and themes are enough to make me emotional. I have a soft spot for anything that deals with food, and clearly the writers know what they're doing. At least enough to fool me with the trivia.
Special note, I love the Sui siblings concept because it's something that I've wished to see in many other places, but I feel like other media tends to overlook the sibling bond aspect and focus on other relationships. Arknights seems to delve into it a good deal more, and coupled with themes of self and family and humanity, there's just nothing to say on my end.
Anyways, hoping for more Yu content the next Yan event. Meanwhile, I'm trying desperately to understand his dialect (each sibling speaks a particular dialect of Chinese, and btw Chinese dialects are pretty much different languages, so you can imagine how Mr. Listening Comprehension is faring with this)

The name of the event is "Such Is the Joy of Our Reunion", which brings me to tears ngl.
The original title, "Xiang Jian Huan," is meaning-wise pretty much embodied by that. But also reminds me of a particular song written in 2010 which has immaculate lyrics. Some Chinese songwriters are built different lol.
It's also commonly associated with a poem written by a disgraced, exiled emperor of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. Bro was kinda a failure ruler-wise. And a loser in general. He cheated on his empress while she was dying. But he wrote good poems (including about the death of his empress), 'cause he liked literature and the arts. Anyways, the poem is as follows:
"Alone Ascending the Western Tower"
Alone to silence, up the western tower, I myself bestow
Like silver curtain hook, so does the moon glow
The fallen leaves of one forsaken parasol
Make deeper still the limpid autumn locked up in the court below.
Try cutting it, it is still profuse--
More minding will but more confuse
Ah, parting's such an enduring sorrow!
It leaves behind a very special taste the heart alone could know.
Like a lot of translations, in trying to preserve both meaning and structure, this is pretty wordy and I'm not too sure how well the original meaning translates out.
The original is as such:
無言獨上西樓
月如鉤
寂寞梧桐
深院鎖清秋
剪不斷
理還亂
是離愁
別有一番滋味在心頭
(in Traditional Chinese lol)
A very barebones translation would yield something like:
He ascends the western tower silently
The moon a hook,
The parasoltree alone.
The court cages the breezy autumn.
Unable to be cut,
Unable to be sorted,
Is parting sorrow--
A one-of-a-kind taste that lingers on the heart.
The most iconic lines are the last three. Maybe because everyone thinks the scenery just frames how pathetic he was.
The poem is about his sorrows about his fallen country, or so they say, but I feel like it really is simpler for someone like him. Just look at the emotions.
He sees the word artistically, but at the moment, even amidst the beautiful scenery, he feels caged by it all. Before I continue roasting an ancient dude's mentality, the general idea is this: This feeling is something that weighs on the heart, even though it's called "parting sorrow".
So why is the description iconic? Because this feeling, and perhaps all feeling, is described simply as this:
It cannot be cut, and if you try to sort it out, it becomes more tangled.
Can you rationalize loss, love, regret, longing? I think for most people, no matter who you are or where you are in life--when you try to sort out intense, complicated feelings, you get something that cannot be severed, and becomes messier when you try to sort it out.
I must emphasize--I love, LOVE Chinese poetry. I will never think that a Chinese poem is feigning arrogance or trying to be more than it is. At least I hope so. Teachers love to tell us to look up the context, but sometimes a piece is all the more impressive if it summarizes something like this in only 6 characters.
You don't have to be someone like Li Yu, who committed so many mistakes and died a miserable death. You need simply feel.
And that's what the event focused so much on. Everyone is bound by feelings, and they're just as hard to sort out for everyone. No matter whether it's the Rhodes Island Elite Operator Blaze, or a girl who sees Baizao as her home, or a fragment of an ancient beast.

Btw if you're ever wondering about why I talk excessively about the emotional damage of the SS AU:
The general trauma gets me, but then my Chinese idea of love gets caught up in the...uhhhh way more ships than normal...of the AU.
We Chinese love our complicated, tragic love stories, accompanied with total sacrifice and devotion. Meanwhile the West would probably call most of these relationships toxic just because of the circumstances lol.
Something something "No matter how ugly the word is, no matter how complicated the story is, you are here." Oh yeah, always add in drama and politics, perfect recipe.
Anyways, idk if the song is plagiarized or referencing a poem or whatever, but there's this one song that at the end goes: "When I meet you in our next life / I will start loving you over from the beginning." which neatly sums up my obsession with multiverses.
Then finally, "Until then, I will bear all jealousies."
What a nice little bow to wrap up emotional destruction lol. I didn't even watch the show, I just know the historical figure (guess who).

I'm pretty much that one stickman violence meme where he's biting a bone and shaking his head around like a dog when it comes to looking for pain in the SS AU

SSA has been really funny.
I bullied the Specters with a random heckin' team. More specifically, I added Manigoldo, Shion, Mu, and Hakurei all on the same team, and added God Cloth Shun and Odysseus
Hakurei kicked the crap out of them ("them" being random Specters as well as Surplice Shion and Deathmask)
And then I got blown up by Myuu lol (SSA enemy scaling moment).
I still need to test out God Cloth Hyoga and Camus. And maybe more people. I barely know how to use Manigoldo and a lot of new units.

Hakurei's review page is really funny btw, but also really fitting.
It's hard to translate the cultural meaning over, but the main idea is that he KICKS. And is an old man.
I watched him get chained to Shun and then go around kicking every single enemy in the face like 3 times in one turn. Glorious. I love him.
We Chinese adopt anyone who exhibits the levels of extreme violence that we condone /hj

Anyways, Sunny has one theme song that kills me gradually (I stole it from F/GO)
He's the kind of character who's...really hard to write correctly, plus his plot is always connected to bigger picture stuff. I suck at bigger picture stuff.
Btw, I am dying from what I am doing to Aureole lol. Normal SS AU stuff I suppose.
To make up for it I am trying to design his mom (she's his mom everywhere, even if she's technically not...and yes, that logic makes 150% sense).
It is not a wise decision.

Dreamed again from the POV of GGaD!Galaxian
Nowadays I tend to feel that the only times I get his characterization correct are when I dream about him.
Honestly, I soften a bit every time, because I'm literally in his perspective, and honestly I think he is worthy of respect. He is pretty much the definition of working good in a world filled with heresy and suffering. Because of what he believes, he has to make himself a hypocrite, but he also has to stand upright and never truly be pushed over by those contradictions.
Anyways, every single time, he's looking out for others (often at the expense of efficiency, i.e. the "best" way to get things over with), and he just has so much goodwill toward everyone and everything that it then feels natural that when he's struggling and lashing out, his emotions are so volatile and illogical. Because before those breaking points, he puts up with so much, forgives and tolerates the greatest evils and cruelties, and has to put up a smile while trying so hard to protect what he wants to protect within boundaries determined by the future.
In other words, GGaD!Galaxian is the ultimate customer service representative
Joking, but also that's so funny. I laugh at my own jokes every day. Hopefully not borderline narcissistic behaviour.
Anyways, the point is, every time I dream about him and get something like Douman shipping him severed baby fingers for fun (actually to try to isolate him and deal with him first), I have to wonder how he keeps his sanity intact and keeps his priiorities straight. For instance, in that particular dream I was feeling quite murderous and my tactical status at the moment was nothing to be proud of, but since I was in Galaxian's POV, he swallowed his tears and anger and kept the priority on evacuating his allies due to the enemy having a greater advantage. And in a nutshell, that is someone with only a few years of experience having much more emotional composure than a teen who likes to think themselves as being good under pressure..
You also can't deny that Ashiya Douman would 100% ship the fingers of dead babies to a child god trying to make said god crack, so both of them were in-character.
