Yes he has a Jerk Voice and Jerk way of saying things but he has a genuine care for teaching and learning and it makes him so interesting to me. He sees good in humanity and wants to cultivate education so everyone can have access to it (he points out that the geniuses in the space station, and in general, don't care to teach others and that there isn't any way for people to catch up due to that. He rejects the notion that only certain people can be "smart" or are born with it, and understands that it takes work to learn)
He even sees the proclaimed "geniuses" of the space station and Intellectia Guilde as mediocre BECAUSE they don't care to teach others, because they see intelligence/education as a limited resource. They don't care to have people think for themselves
He even points out his own quick temper in the fact he "can't stand fools, idiots, or imbeciles", but wants to teach people and help them be self aware. A lot of his arrogance is really him trying to get people to think on their own tbh, which is just so ahdbajndka to me
I would even go as far as to say, even if he wants people to think independently, he has this sort of thing where he also wants people to think about others/to be considerate. In his own messed up way, I suppose (same guy who responded to the fact there was potentially a bomb on a ship by responding with "k" and leaving the group chat lmao, he really couldn't have been bothered). I think this sort of thing though lies mainly with his ideals in education
Yes he's pretentious, but I think it just comes with the way he talks and his tone of voice more than anything. I think as a whole, he just isn't scared to speak his mind and point things out, and he can't be bothered about social cues and what's considered acceptable to say. He's also such a yapper, istg. Every conversation I see him have feels like an interesting infodump lmao, but tbf he's also very much a philosopher, which I think adds onto why he talks the way he does
He also sees failure as a learning tool, that it's necessary to fail to learn, that imperfection is what helps people grow.
Direct quote: "...even a life marked by failure is a life worth living - it is only in moments of solitude and despair, when help is absent, that fools grasp how to pick themselves up."
Again, adding onto that he wants people to think for themselves
He's also a very interesting contrast to Ruan Mei when it comes to failure (which iirc Dr. Ratio doesn't like her due to this). She abandons her failed experiments (which have sentience btw) and doesn't take responsibility for said experiments, even handing off the work to The Trailblazer. She states that she "can't feel love", which somewhat breaks off into her not being able to feel care (I'm trying so hard to be nice to her here because I actually really dislike her character due to her abandoning her experiments/the cat cakes). Even then, when I was playing the game, it lowkey felt like an excuse rather than an actual reason. She's a "genius" in the sense of the title/being recognized by Nous (which is why she's in the Genius Society), but she doesn't take time or responsibility into her experiments, especially the failed ones. In a sense, or at least my interpretation, is that she looks down on failure
I think the difference between Ruan Mei and Ratio is the concept of responsibility. Ratio sees teaching and spreading knowledge as his responsibility.
Because he has knowledge, he needs to share it; he is willing to take responsibility to do so. While, as stated before, Ruan Mei does not put that sort of care into her experiments. Really, The Trailblazer has to CONVINCE her to start caring. And if The Trailblazer wasn't there, who knows if she would have ever started to care/begin to take responsibility in the first place
So anyway yea I loveeeeee Dr. Ratio, he's very autism coded to me and I relate to him a lot in a lot of aspects

This was something I was always confused about. I have some irl friends that play hsr so I know many the characters and some plot points just being around them so...
why is Sunday a playable character? Wasn't he the main antagonist of the last arc?

Because winning the antagonist over to your side is the mark of competency in gacha games. Why? Do you lack the charisma to win the antagonist over in the games you play?MONEY MONEY MONEY

Redemption most likely (I haven't played the new story part that just released when Sunday did, which will likely give more info)
In his trailer and character stuff, he shows a lot of change/rethinking and stuff (after beating the shit out of him and canonically hitting him with a train /hj), so I think he is going to have a redemption arc (YIPPEE! Especially since it's very much implied that he was indoctrinated by The Order as a child, I'm really excited to see what happens to him if he is getting a redemption arc)
Also in HSR they let us play as dead characters (glances at another one of my favorites) so it's not that surprising if they let us pull antagonists
