Watching Star Trek: The Next Generation and currently relating even harder to Data than I used to
like specifically the episode where Data gets a girlfriend for like two seconds
and the girl gets kind of annoyed at him for resuming his painting when she tells him to because she says that when someone tells you something like that you're actually supposed to give them your undivided attention and I literally started yelling at the tv like "IF YOU WANT MY ATTENTION THEN ASK ME FOR IT"
thus leading me to realize that Data taking pretty much everything literally and not understanding the "proper" way to handle romantic things is...exactly how I would handle a similar situation
especially in the way he takes expressions and phrases literally

especially because like a minute later she tells him to go back to his painting for real and he even pauses and waits because he thinks she's asking him to pay attention to her again until she clarifies she actually does want him to keep painting
