Self portraits are hard when you don't really know a realistic art style, I think. It just doesn't get the details to get it to show its really you.

Ofc I am very sure there are many people who could communicate that, it's just in my experience, if I were ever to do a self portrait, it would look like a imaginary version of me instead of really me, you know? Do you also feel this?

Self portraits are different, though. Traditional self-portraits are when you take a mirror (or a picture) of yourself and paint/draw it, usually in a realistic style (unless you were Picasso ig). What I do are caricatures, cartoony versions of real people. I emphasize certain parts of their features so you can still tell who they are even with the style.

My sister just showed me a picture she drew of a tiny stick figure with ears and a tail labelled "dog boi." I asked, "Is that Redpine?" and she said "No, it's the wolf guy!" so I was like "What wolf guy??" and she said "The wolf guy from the anime!!" so I said "What anime???" and she said "The anime on Hulu that I have to switch off of every time I want to watch Pokemon!"

And then it clicked


She was talking about Inuyasha



She thought he's a wolf and and mistook his sword sheath for a tail

So after recovering from wheezing knowing that the character would not like being mistaken for a wolf, I said, "He's not a wolf." and she looked at me all confused like "Then what IS he?" and I said "He's a dog. Not a wolf."









And she made little stick figures and labelled them with their names and now I'm wondering how I told her about so many anime characters
