"Of course he would look surprised," Chiyoko remarks. "Galaxian likely did not think that we would be using his design in such a matter."
The god nods a little at the guess. "I thought you all would just use it to get free food," he professes.
Bruh.
Manai adds, to Nagesh, "It does look like you're wearing plastic gloves, like a lunch lady. Does that mean you'll make us all something after this?"
"I would have considered it, but you just compared me to a lady while having logical alternatives," Nagesh rebuffs, taking his hands out of whatever he had imagined.
Offline
"That would mean the limit is our imagination," Laurie muttered to herself. Then, to the latest statement, she suggested, "A 'lunch sir' could be a good alternative."
Offline
Nagesh feigns despondency.
Galaxian sputters, "A...a lunch sir."
Manai looks a little less confuddled by the suggested alternative. "A lunch sir," she repeats, quite thoughtfully, in fact. She looks Laurie dead in the eyes. "Then why isn't 'lunch lady' lunch ma'am instead?"
"Lunch madam," Galaxian says, sounding like he's about to choke. For some reason, he finds this very funny.
Offline
Laurie returns the stare with all innocence. "It could very well be an option too."
Offline
She's clearly hiding a grin. She's not very good at it, though. "Can it?"
Offline
"I believe so. Other options could be 'lunch mister' and 'lunch missus'. Nothing prevents us from using those terms, no?" Laurie replied, taking a hand to her lips in thought.
Offline
"Hmm...what about a gender neutral term?"
Yes, they're just going to have this discussion in the middle of a meeting about wifi passwords.
Offline
"Lunch person..."
Offline
"Lunch individual," Galaxian pipes.
"Currently Uncertified Chef," Chiyoko suggests, looking at least a little thoughtful.
Offline
Laurie stays silent as she attemps to recall more gender-neutral terms to use in naming a lunch person.

"Middle Meal Maker," Nagesh says in the middle of the temporary silence. Not intentionally, of course.
"Not all places have three meals a day as a custom," Chiyoko points out, to which he offers a shrug. He doesn't lose his grin, though.
"Well, then the term would have to be made culturally malleable somehow."
Offline
"Just 'Meal Maker' seems like a sensible choice," Laurie offered.

"Do they make dinner?" Galaxian asks. Genuinely, that is. He doesn't know. He's a regularly truant deity.
Offline
"Dinner is a meal, so it is something a Meal Maker can make," she explained with a slight hand gesture.
Offline
"I heard that some schools have their lunch people put together meals for the needy," offers Manai. She raises a hand briefly, one of her thinking habits. "Like the soup kitchens I mentioned a while back," she adds, looking at Nagesh and Laurie as she says that, probably because that conversation had involved the two of them more directly than the others.
Offline
"I respect the people who work in soup kitchens," Laurie commented, nodding. Then she added, in a softer tone, "Soup is a meal. Unfortunately, it is not a meal I can make well."
Offline
"Ah, and here I was going to suggest us going to a soup kitchen one of these times," Manai immediately follows, her eyebrows raising playfully.
Nagesh smirks at Laurie. "I didn't know you had tried making soup. Why, did you forget to give us all samples?"
Offline
Laurie stared at her hands in her lap. "I didn't think anyone would find it palatable...so I drank it all and cleaned the mess."
Offline
"I dunno, I think the color of that spot on that ceiling looked pretty cool when it was around," Galaxian says.
Slight Awkwardness has entered the chat now, I guess.
Nagesh more or less ignores its entrance. "What sort of soup did you try to make, Laurie?"
Chiyoko gives Slight Awkwardness a little wave under her sleeve.
Offline
""I did not want to leave the kitchen dirty... food is not paint to look cool on the ceiling or walls of an area." Although Laurie's face showed little change, the Alternate more familiar with her would be able to notice slight embarrassment. At that point she lifted her head to reply to Nagesh more visually.
"A flavorful soup was supposed to be the result. I could list some of the ingredients I used."
Offline
Galaxian looks like that's something new to be learned. It definitely should not have been, but that's also to be expected.
"Of course, you can do so if you wish," Nagesh responds, not reacting to her embarrassment. Though of course he notices.

"The base was boiled-- boiling water with two cups of salt, pepper, cumin, chili paste, ground cinnamon, and half a kg of shredded chicken. I also added chopped potatoes, apples, corn, and more meat for flavor."
Laurie paused there to see what the others had to say.
Offline
"Hmm, it sounds rather on point," Nagesh says, while Manai and Chiyoko, both people who either don't need to eat or don't know how to cook (judging from Chinami's sheepish expression), listen on with interest. He pauses. "Wait, two cups?"
This is probably 'cause the narrator is stupid, but let's just assume that he's asking because he's unfamiliar with Forengard's units of measurement and is envisioning 2 coffee mugs of salt being added or something like that.
Offline
"Two cups," Laurie confirmed.
Offline
Chiyoko isn't too sure about measurement units either, but she does find another part kind of off. "I'm sorry, but did you list the ingredients in the order of amount?"
(Tbh I suck at cooking so I can't really tell what went wrong with that recipe lol, telling me would be appreciated)
Offline
((Everything would be mostly fine except the spices weren't added in proportion. You're not supposed to put regular cinnamon in with the rest of the others listed, and much less two full cups of each. Also the apples really weren't needed there.))
Offline
((I guess the others don't know this yet, but the amount of ingredients added is way too much for the quantity of soup Laurie meant to make/the pot size she used))
"That would be correct."
Offline
(Lol I'm here like "Who adds fruit to soup," guess cultural differences are there though)
"So, what exactly was wrong with the taste?" Nagesh asks. "Was it, perhaps, too salty? Or something tasted like it did not belong?"
Offline
((It really depends on the kind of soup haha, as you can see it clearly doesn't fit into this recipe))
"Yes. It all tasted very... off." Laurie closed her eyes as a minuscule sigh escaped her lips. Hopefully they wouldn't dwell on the subject for long. "I promise to use an existing recipe next time."
Offline
"Alright. Let us know if you need any help with it," Nagesh offers, hopefully helpfully.
"I can't offer help," Manai admits cheerily.
Nagesh grins at her. "You, Professor, are designated for chemistry homework help, not culinary aid."
"Yep," she agrees, completely unperturbed by the implications of her entirely being inept when it comes to cooking.
To be honest, Galaxian's trying to figure out which one of them can cook. As is the narrator. They can't think of anyone who's particularly skilled at it, actually.
Time to revive Dion from some AU, Galaxi~
