The tapping noise doesn't help with coherent thinking at all, yeah, mostly because Kiaane's mind is hyperfocusing on the noise. They mutter something about the action of leaving under their breath that wouldn't be comprehensible if someone could actually hear what they said.
Offline
Martin stopped his tapping for a moment while he checked on the cricket.
Offline
The cricket is either unconscious or asleep, or something. It does not respond, perhaps unfortunately.
Offline
Instead of being more considerate and letting it rest, Martin gave a short screech he thought would sound cricket-like in order to wake it up. It doesn't even sound like an insect.
Offline
Kiaane's pupils dilate very quickly, almost before Martin even screams.
Honestly, it's only due to the thread being private that no one comes running over.
The cricket, meanwhile, nearly falls clean out of his sleeve.
Offline
"I can't speak Cricket," he sighed.
Offline
"Yes," Kiaane agrees after a while, a mutter.
Offline
"And it's sad the cricket can't speak like me," he continued, making a slight ): face.
Offline
Technically, it could--with some magic, that is. Not that Kiaane will point that out.
Not that they think of that in the first place. Anyways, they just tilt their head, helpful as usual in terms of conducting conversations and actual roleplaying flow.
Offline
Martin stopped talking as he suddenly imagined a human-sized cricket speaking human language.
o.o
Offline
Kiaane sees nothing wrong with both what they actually see and what Martin is imagining. Maybe a little concerning, but they've seen weirder.
Anyways, they go to pick the cricket up. Hopefully it doesn't have a concussion. Most hopefully, it didn't splatter all across the floor from its fall.
Offline
Martin followed Kiaane's action with his eyes until he finally realized the cricket was on the ground. He then tried to grab it, unless it's already in the other's hands.
Offline
Kiaane is fast--so quick that it seems like as soon as they get the cricket in their hand, they dart backwards. Though in reality, it's not really them doing that--just them doing a quick retreat. Speaking of which, they're still backing up, cleverly avoiding any possibility of being backed into a corner.
Of course, they don't think of it like that. They're just good at not being cornered to the extent that it's instinct at this point. No offense intended to Martin.
Mission Confiscate Cricket--complete.
Offline
Martin stayed on the ground on all fours, looking at Kiaane with both surprise and a bit of a disappointed feeling. He wanted to grab the cricket again and now he hadn't been able to.
Offline
Not gonna lie, Martin; with the way you were gonna snatch the cricket, you might have smushed it.
Oh, and also, it's not like Kiaane's gonna change their expression. Martin could probably make puppy eyes and they'd still look like the way they are now. Well, the good thing is that they've stopped backing out, or else they probably would back out of the kitchen.
Offline
"Why did you take it? I was going to put it in my sleeve again." Martin shook his arm to move the sleeve. He stood up kind of slowly.
Offline
The mercenary raises the hand the cricket is on and then lowers it again, like that's supposed to mean something most people will understand.
Offline
That caused a small pout from Martin, but nothing more. He hesitated for a second before deciding to ask again, "Why?"
Offline
Kiaane lifts the cricket a little more before stating, "Wants a reprieve."
Oh.
Offline
"A... what? Is that a fruit?"
Offline
"No." Kiaane takes 2 seconds to figure out whether they want to specify or not, and they surprisingly decide that they will. "Crickets do not like noise."
Offline
"Oh." Martin smiled again, adding a nod. "I can stay silent."

Kiaane, who could just say that he doesn't have to but doesn't really know how to explain it, slightly frowns.
Offline
Martin put his hands behind his back, waiting for a clue of what to do next.
Offline
Kiaane tries hard. They really do. Their frown stays on their face while they attempt to actually know how to say something somewhat nice, but since they don't really know how to say much in general, the right thing to say is going over their head. Anyways, maybe out of realization of how awkward the state of things are currently, they look away.
Offline
True to his word, the boy stayed silent. He settled his sight in the cricket's direction.
Offline
The cricket is staring at the nearest door or window. If there's a window, it's staring at that. If there are no windows, then it's looking at a door. But of course, Kiaane has it in their hands, away from Martin's direct view.
Offline
Part of Martin wants to ask for the cricket back again. He could easily stretch out his arms to do it, or just as easily simply talk. But he chose to press his lips together tightly.
Offline
Hint for the thread being able to progress, by the way: They'll have to leave the kitchen. Lol.
Honestly, Kiaane probably wants to leave, but they just aren't stating it. Hey look! They're both having communication issues! Similarities are good! ...maybe.
They set the cricket down on the nearest counter. Can't imagine Elio or Aereon being happy about this, but anyways, the cricket immediately scampers across the counter. It slides a little once in a while, too, like it's ice-skating.
Glad someone's having fun.

((help xD))
Martin glanced sideways towards the cricket. It looked cool to him. It reminded him of one time he slipped on a polished part of the floor.
