It's not a school assignment actually but it's pretty close

It's about a kid named Cody who's unlucky and a good luck spirit named Yuki who's summoned with a lantern.

Since Yuki gives good luck and Cody has bad luck, they cancel each other out. The idea is that if Cody can get rid of his bad luck (which is caused by his loneliness) Yuki can give him good luck like she's supposed to
