Maybe it's just that I'm used to hearing it?

Yeah, you're right. A flute is very smooth sounding. A quena has some "texture" to it but in a good way.

It still needs to be small... the smallest quena I found seems to be about 10 inches. Pan flutes seem to be basically as small as you can make them. Quenas and other woodwinds with holes have a large range while still being smaller, whereas the larger the range on a pan flute the larger the flute has to be

Yeah I went with a panflute
I drew it bigger than I meant to in my Cuphead challenge but I can always change it. It's still pretty compact even at that size
