"It feels like you don't have your feathers tangled at all," Kaori reports to the bird. "But...it does feel like you're really taut. Are you doing that, or is that natural?"
The bird squawks. Who knows what it means.
Offline
"Maybe the bird is doing that?" Francis suggested. "It doesn't really know us, and you're holding him, so it might be a little tense."
Offline
The bird squawks again.
"What do you mean?" Kaori asks. "If your feathers aren't tangled, then surely you could have flown before now, right?" He specifies, "Before the two of us even came here?"
No clue what that squawk meant.
Offline
Francis thought for a moment.
"Oh! Maybe something is making it all tense and stuff, which is why it can't fly."
Offline
"Is there some kind of medical condition for birds that causes that?" Kaori wonders. He has taken his hand off of the bird, obviously, and backed away a little. He also seems afraid to keep too much distance, though, maybe with some irrational phobia that something bad will happen to it if so.
Offline
"I dunno, to be honest. Like, maybe there might be a condition that causes the muscles to tense up randomly or something, but I don't really recall anything specific."
Offline
"I guess diagnosis would be needed, but I don't think he really wants to go to the vet or an animal hospital," he guesses, staring at the bird, which stares right back at him.
Offline
"Hmm... What do you think could be causing it other than a medical condition?" Francis asked Kaori.
Offline
"I don't know. Maybe he fell off from the tree, and that resulted in some muscle sprain?" he randomly guesses.
Offline
"That's a pretty big possibly..."
"Hey, uhm, bird. Sorry to bother you, but can you flex your foot if you had fell from the tree and sprained your muscles?"
Francis is trying his best.
Offline
The bird has never studied its own anatomy. It actually ponders that for a moment before giving a disgruntled squawk, like "How would I know?"
"Maybe it's just the muscles that allow him to fly that are sprained? Or just one or a few of them?" Kaori guesses again.
Offline
Francis apologized to the bird before saying to Kaori, "Maybe. I think that makes sense."
Offline
"I dunno. Presuming seems presumptuous," Kaori says, with a little smile at his stupid little joke.
Offline
"Oh, uhm... What should we do to help it, then? If we can't figure to it what's wrong, then we can't figure out how to help it..."
Francis looked sad.
Offline
Kaori shrugs, thinking. To be honest, even if he had the money to pay for the bird going to an animal hospital or a vet's, they'd still have to convince the bird to want to go in the first place--and, in reality, the opposite case exists.
Offline
Francis stared at the bird, his expression still sad.
Offline
The bird doesn't actually like to be pitied. It tries its best to look back at Francis and squawks.
Offline
Francis quickly looked away.
"A-ah, sorry. I mean not to offend."
He's not sure exactly what he did to be squawked at.
Offline
Reasonable.
Kaori's still thinking. Yay.
Offline
Francis looked over to Kaori and watched him for a bit before looking down at the ground and humming.
Offline
"I think I might have an idea," Kaori pipes after a while.
Offline
"What is it?" Francis asked, tilting his head.
Offline
"Well, let's ask him first," he goes, clarifying: "About whether or not he would actually want to go to the veterinary if he can go."
Offline
"Okay," Francis nodded. He looked over to the bird and asked, "Is it okay if we take you to the vet if we're able to do so?"
Offline
"We'll find one with really, really nice people in it," Kaori adds as he tries to reassure the bird and assuage its concerns, not that he has any idea what the heck he's doing. "I think all people in vets are really nice, though, but we'll look for one with super nice people in it." He adds under his breath, "And also willingness to maybe offer a temporary discount. That would be nice."
The bird chirps. Or at least it tries. The sound is ever-so-slightly grating on the ears. One probably wouldn't be able to tell from the reactions of the two hoomans here, though.
Offline
I mean, the sound doesn't bother Francis, but to be fair he spends 90% of his time around Silence, and gods know how LOUD they can get. They probably have made much more worse ear-damaging noises lmao.
Francis looks to Kaori like a little kid (or something like that, the Narrator had a better definition but his brain has Stopped) to try to understand if the bird is agreeing or not.
Offline
Kaori seems to just be presuming that that was a yes, maybe from the logic of the chirp sounding much better than the other sounds the bird had made before, or maybe no logic at all. At this point, it's slightly difficult to gauge what type of person he is in that type of regards. "Great," he goes with a smile. "So that's a yes, right?" he asks enthusiastically, though from the look in his eyes it looks like he's bearing himself for a sudden screech from the bird to tell him that he's wrong.
Thankfully for him, though, it doesn't happen. The bird just kinda tries to ruffle the feathers on its wing and squawks.
Offline
"How will we get the bird there?" Francis asks aloud. He's trying to think of the different veterinary places around the city.
Offline
"I can carry him," he offers cheerily. After thinking a bit (and making it quite clear that he's doing so), he adds, "I'd probably get a few towels for that. I'm sure hotel staff wouldn't mind as long as I wash the towels well afterwards."
The bird squawks, maybe sounding slightly offended.
Offline
Francis explains to the bird, "Not that you're dirty or anything, it would actually just be more comfortable for you to be carried in towels, I think."
Francis looks back to Kaori and says, "I can go to a hotel real quick and ask for a few towels if you don't mind staying with the bird by yourself."
