"Iarfhalaith," Hitan answers with a straight face. That name, which the narrator could not remember, is also why they stalled answering the thread.
"See? Weird," Iollan says, a teasing tone starting up. "See, since your name is Helen, it'd be weird if I called you Hoorain or Harmonii, wouldn't it?"

{I'm finally here XD}
"Er...yeah." Helen studied Iollan curiously. "But you'll still call me Helen?"
Offline
"Well, yeah," Iollan answers with a nod. "Unless you want to be called Hoorain or Houdi--wait no, not Houdini." He grins easily. "Harmonii."
Offline
Helen seemed to relax. "Oh, good. Those other names sound funny."
Offline
"Agreed," Iollan says, giving Hitan a look like "See?" that isn't accusatory.
"Well," he adds quickly, "I just wanted to say hi. It was nice meeting you, Helen. Maybe see you two around? Hopefully?"
Hitan nods in a way that's supposed to mean "Perhaps" and "Eh, unlikely."
Offline
Helen nodded, hopeful at the idea. "Ok!"
Offline
"I'll look forward to that in the meantime, then," Iollan says. His gaze flickers back to Hitan. "See you at work, dude."
The blond makes an awkward attempt at a thumbs-up, to which the athletic teacher reciprocates (with considerably less awkwardness) and then goes off again, returning to his shopping cart and heading back towards the check-out lane's direction.

"Dude? Is your name also Dude?" She looked over at Hitan curiously.
Offline
"No," he says in a way like the question required much thought, which it doesn't. "Why would it be?"
Offline
"He called you dude!"
Offline
"That would be slang," Hitan explains. "It refers to a male individual."
Offline
"Oh." After a moment, she gave it a try. "Dude," she said with a nod to the next male passerby.
Offline
Said male passerby is pretty chill. After a moment of realizing that the young lady is, in fact, talking to him, he waves at her, albeit a bit awkwardly. "Yo?"
A smile is trying to work its way through Hitan's expression.

((I think that's one of my favorite roleplay posts now @Rune xD gotta love Helen))
Offline
{XDD}
She grinned excitedly. "Dude!" she exclaimed again, glancing over at Hitan.
Offline
The chill passerby stops his grocery shopping to give her a good look. "Can I help you?"
Offline
She shook her head, offering a final "dude."
Offline
The passerby slings her a sideways grin and then continues with his business.
Hitan watches the other move away (again) before he tells Helen, "When I said it is slang referring to a male individual, I did not quite mean...it could substitute someone's name...or a title like 'sir.' Dialogue in general, I suppose."
English lesson in the middle of a supermarket? Sure.

((C'mon Rune reply to this xD I wanna see where it goes))

{Ahhh I forgot all about this one. Thanks for the bump! XD}
Helen still seemed puzzled. "But he didn't seem to mind being called dude."
Offline
"He was quite agreeable," Hitan agrees; indeed, the narrator often feels like POVing nice characters, even for NPCs.
Offline
{Literal mood though}
The demigod nodded. "Mhm! He was nice. I bet all nice people like being called dude."
Offline
"I...am not sure about that," Hitan responds, noting down to see if anyone has made a study to research any positive correlation between the two.
Offline
"Well, you got called dude by someone, and you didn't mind. See?"
Offline
Hitan does the thing that the narrator's characters do in that the thread's supposed to be a fluff thread but they're too sad, so they act sad. It's not too apparent for him at least; just a brief shadow passes through his eyes even though he smiles. "Perhaps I don't represent nice people."
Offline
She shook her head. "You're a very nice person."
Offline
"Perhaps," Hitan goes softly, "but I am very different from most 'nice people.'" He squares his shoulders a bit. "Now then, shall we finish acquiring picnic supplies?"
Offline
She looked at him questioningly, but finally let it go. "Yeah! We have pickles, right?"
Offline
"No, we don't have any in the...basket," he answers. Pretend the narrator typed "shopping cart" if that's a shopping cart. The original thread will not be found. "We do have some back there," he adds, referring to the place where they met Rai and have been staying for a while.
