Martin shrugged. "I think it is already sleeping."
Offline
"No."
Offline
"Thennnn..." Martin fidgeted with his fingers. "Crickets don't hibernate, right?"
Offline
"Yes, they die."
Wow, real considerate.
"From the cold," Kiaane elaborates, though not really out of thoughtfulness for the fact Martin is a freaking kid.
Offline
"..."
Martin just kind of stared at Kiaane, then back at the immobile cricket.
Offline
"..." Kiaane stares back, completely unaware of the connotations behind what they just said.
Offline
Well, Kiaane is probably not going to react to this, but the expression on Martin's face has changed more than just a bit.
"It's not dead, right? It's still alive, right!?"
Offline
(In Kiaane's defense, Martin wandered right into that)
"Yes." Kiaane's expression remains infuriatingly neutral. They look down at the cricket as if to make sure, then nod ever so slightly.
Offline
((rip))
Almost afraid to move, Martin poked the cricket lightly.
Offline
Okay, so imagine the cricket turning to the side in the most exaggerated way possible and poking out its tongue to play dead. That's for comedy purposes, by the way. Crickets don't have tongues.
Offline
((XDDDDDDD))
Even though Kiaane had said the cricket was fine, Martin started a little at its reaction.
"It- it doesn't look fine!"
Offline
"...it moved," Kiaane points out, as if just being able to move means anything can't be not fine. Well, maybe they did finally catch on to the fact Martin is panicking because he thinks the cricket might be hurt or something.
Offline
"But it only moved a little," Martin pointed out.
Offline
"It moved," Kiaane reiterates, not understanding his concerns, apparently.
Offline
Martin happened to look directly at Kiaane's eyes for his next question.
"If it moved, does that mean it isn't dead? For sure?"
Offline
Kiaane has gorgeous eyes that reveal absolutely nothing to how they feel at the current moment.
"Yes." They add after about ten seconds, "In this circumstance."
What they mean is that the cricket isn't undead, was never intended to be undead, and moved partly by itself.
Offline
Martin let out a breath he had been holding for the last few seconds. He trusted the reply he'd received, so there wasn't anything left to do but wait to see what the cricket would do now.
Offline
The cricket doesn't really know he wants it to do anything, probably because it's trying its hardest to look to the side in the goofy manner described before.
Offline
((I'm not sure of where to go next here))
Offline
(Idk either lol as usual)

(Okay I took the time to read through all 23 pages and some more of this thread and I think I have more of an idea of what we can build up here before the thread actually comes to a good ending point. Here are the following points for reference, mostly my reference:
-Martin mentioned taking a nap with the cricket later on, so that's probably what he's gonna do after this thread ends, after feeding it apples too ig [I was gonna say that maybe Kiaane can walk him over to somewhere where he can pick apples because the Thaohals ran out or something]?
-At the end, Martin will have the following things: He'll have the cricket with him, he might want to take the smaller remaining sandwich with him as well. He'll also have the book Beauty and the Beast.
-I'm pretty sure I can end the thread when the time comes; I have a good ending dramatic POV idea )

((Ooh okay, sounds good and I'll try to follow as well as I can 👀. Ig since it's my turn to post I'll reply once I have some more time to think.))
Offline
(I'd offer to make one but I actually read the upper posts and realized there's not much more I can do rn, so sounds good to me)
Offline
"Can I have the cricket?" Martin asked carefully. Maybe it would feel more comfortable if it went back into his sleeve again.
Offline
Kiaane, in a fashion that would be most similar to eager in terms of their behavior, seems very glad (also in terms of what would be similar to their behavior) to return the cricket to him.
Offline
The kid cradled the cricket with both hands, lifting it up to his face to observe better. But he slowly placed it back into one of his large sleeves right after that.
He then looked back at Kiaane, expecting a reaction.
Offline
No reaction. It's like they gave a twig to Martin--actually, that's kinda what they did, isn't it? A transfigured cricket.
The cricket moves in the sleeve. Yay!
Offline
Since the reaction came from the cricket, that's where Martin's attention went. To his sleeve. To observe the movement.
Offline
It's kinda like it turned in its sleep, because now it's not moving again.
Offline
Martin was satisfied with that.
He sat on the floor again. "What are we going to do now?"
