He landed on his feet and immediately crumpled to his hands and knees. "Ow ow ow ow," he hissed. "Bad idea, bad idea."
Alex used the grappling hook. "Dummy," he said.
Offline
Good for Alex. But the fact the other could feel pain through there mostly meant no broken bones. Right? Anyways, Galaxian carried the ladder on over, placed it down, and extended it.
Offline
James eyes were watering and he moved to sit down. "You know what," he said, sounding like he was trying very hard not to cry or sound like he was in pain. "I'll stay here to keep watch."
Alex nodded.
Offline
"Ok." Even Galaxian knew pointing out otherwise would damage Jame's ego, probably. He started up the ladder.
Offline
Alex started up the ladder after him. "Use our super secret signals if something happens."
Offline
The deity wondered briefly what that was, but he hoped the two had enough common sense to not use anything too drastic. Anyways, he clambered onto the building and waited for Alex to come up so he could take the ladder up. After all, a ladder propped up there would be pretty obvious.
Offline
Alex climbed up onto the roof and went to the chimney to peer down. "Oh good, they dont have the fire going!"
Offline
"Shhh," Galaxian shushed the other, but grinned slightly. Yay, he didn't have to risk maybe exposing the fact he wasn't flammable!
Offline
Alex hung the grappling hook on the edge and grabbed the rope. "I'll go first," he said.
Offline
He nodded, watching the other's actions carefully.
Offline
Alex went into the chimney, using the rope to get to the bottom. He crouched down to look around the room before looking back up and giving Galaxian a thumb's up. He then crawled out.
Offline
Galaxian quickly made his way down the place as well. He managed to get the thing down again and wrapped it up before following after Alex.
Offline
They were inside the main area of the guild. There were tables everywhere, a bar, several dart games, and stuffed monsters and monster heads everywhere. Hanging up right next to a door that appeared to lead to some kind of private office, was a request board. Alex made a beeline towards it. The private office also appeared to be where Bleakburn and his friends were brainstorming strategies.
Offline
Galaxian is really squirming at the monster heads and "trophies", but if Alex ever looks back, he just suppresses it.
"What's your plan?" he whispered to Alex. "I gotta get that interview!"
Offline
"Well, I was just gonna take a quest and leave," Alex said. "He'll for sure take it away if I stay..." he thought for a moment. "How about I sneak out and you stay to try to get that interview?"
Offline
"Okay..." Galaxian managed to look sad about separating. Actually he was kinda sad about the separation thing, but not the fact there might be one less potential witness to...what he was going to do. He offered the grappling hook back to the other. "Make sure you don't harm a nice creature!"
Offline
"Okay!" Alex said cheerfully. He scanned the board, and chose a quest involving hunting down and killing a group of goblins that had killed some merchant's daughter. "Maybe when you're done, you can join us on the quest! Or just hang out sometime, you're cool. And good luck!" He grinned at Galaxian before disappearing back into the chimney. There were noises that suggested that he was climbing back up it.
Offline
"If you need help ever maybe pray to a deity," Galaxian said quickly before the other took his leave. Well, it probably didn't matter, because if Alex and James did get in life-threatening danger, this bit of interaction the deity had had with them meant ample protection for Alex and James. That is, he'd probably get some sort of "life threat" notification regarding the two. But in any case, he waved to the other before making his way stealthily towards the brainstorming room.
Offline
There was lots of arguing coming from the room. They were disagreeing on everything from what types of weapons to use to what time of day to even do the attack.
Offline
Brainstorming indeed.
Galaxian found a good corner to conceal himself and tried to hear if the topic was already on Ribbon. If the situation was more natural, one might even think that the conclusion came to be naturally!
Offline
"Let's just set the whole forest on fire and smoke her out!" One of them said. "Get the whole guild on it so she can't escape. Get the kids on it if we have to!"
Offline
Galaxian looked for one actively arguing so he could kinda make all of it--it being "how about let's not"--resemble a natural argument. Maybe one more quiet. If they got puzzled, then so be it. He was kinda focused on the ends this time.
Offline
Bleakburn seemed to be the one shooting down all the ideas. 2 other dudes were going through papers and making random suggestions. A fourth dude was resting his head in his palm and looked like he was going to fall asleep at any moment. Every once in a while he would mutter a "yeah totally" or "no that's dumb" but didnt actually seem to be paying attention.
Offline
Well, maybe it was a good idea to just focus on Bleakburn. Or maybe combine the two of them. Maybe one too many "no that's dumb"s would "get through" to Bleakburn.
Galaxian turned invisible and slightly squinted through the door to just give Bleakburn's mind extra feelings of exasperation.
Offline
In response to this, Bleakburn angrily swiped everything off the table, causing sleepy dude to shoot wide awake and jump back in his chair, causing both him and the chair to fall over. "This is pointless!" He bellowed. "That freak always manages to slip away! Clearly, plans are useless!"
Offline
Clearly Galaxian was out of practice because--wait, he didn't. He barely managed to not catch sleepy dude with the air. Though he did suggest to maybe think that the point really wasn't about the 'freak' always getting away, but just maybe leaving her alone? Honestly even he wasn't sure it'd work.
Offline
Sadly it didn't work. His mind didn't even consider the possibility, clearly capturing or killing her was a matter of pride now, alongside the reward.
"How about instead of going after a little girl with too many arms, we focus on far more dangerous monsters, like, I don't know, the giant rats that eat kids that live in the sewers?" Sleepy suggested with a yawn. "Let's just take a break from this quest to focus on more important matters."
"This IS important," Bleakburn growled. "If we don't get her in the next 2 weeks he's gonna be sending his own guys, and none of us get that reward. Besides, what about everyone who lost limbs and lives to that little monster!? The rats can wait, there are plenty of guys on that already! And that stupid buddy system whats-his-face keeps rambling about."
Offline
(You call him Sleepy and now Bleakburn's Grumpy and all of them are the Seven Little Dwarves)
He's? Galaxian paused briefly to check Bleakburn's mind for any indications of who the antecedent (the apparent rival of this group) might be. He also checked telepathically with Ribbon to see if she was doing alright.
Offline
She was.
According to Bleakburn's mind, the person he was referring to was a dude who had put out a pretty big reward for Ribbon, and was now getting impatient.
