James is probably the best character in the Pokemon anime

I’m glad someone shares my opinion

I mean think about it: while he’s technically the “bad guy” throughout the series he helps Ash and the Gang with various different things. Even I they were for personal-/Team Rocket-driven he still cared enough about it to genuinely want to help them, an example being in Pokemon XY (I forget which episode number) when Braixen’s branch breaks. When he reveals himself he seems a bit hesitant to do so because he genuinely wanted to help Braixen with its branch.

Not to mention he’s also a total geek, knowing a lot of things and being really smart, like knowin ly exactly how certain things like the Anistar Sundial works even though he doesn’t have a work-related need to know it; he just likes learning things.

He’s also shown to actually be pretty nice in the series. He obviously cares about his Pokemon (Jesse too, though I noticed it’s much more frequent in James case because he will help pokemon not his own as with Braixen) and a fairly understanding person. He’s supportive of Jesse and her goals like becoming the Kalos Queen even if there isn’t an overall goal other than Jesse accomplishing her dream (which falls through anyway but still it’s the thought that counts). Honestly if he weren’t part of Team Rocket, he would probably just be a really nice guy and a really good Pokémon trainer.

Yes I just made a an entire essay about how one of the main “villains” of the entire Pokémon anime series but it had to be done

Let me rephrase:

IF Revali's character is as that person described, then it makes sense to compare the two in that context. IF it is NOT true, then they indeed have very different personalities.

Alex Zandevor I’d like to think Revali is a kind of tragic hero who’s ambition led him to greatness, but also made him perceive his greatness as failure, because that ambition meant he could never be satisfied with second place to someone like Link, no matter how exceptional he ended up being. Thus, he acts confident only to mask the truth that underneath he feels utterly inferior, and actually admires Link.

oof -_- n champions ballad, revali is shown to be hard working despite his many failures. The only way he felt satisfied and good enough is by putting on an arrogant confidence. basically insecure

So we can agree that the two character share very similar traits that affect how they behave, each person just sees what sort of traits are similar differently
