"I wonder what it's like to be a cricket."
Martin shifted in place. He pulled his hand closer to his face to observe the cricket better.
Offline
Kiaan ponders if turning Martin into a cricket is against family rules.
The cricket kinda kicks its legs towards where his tongue was sticking out; of course, it is doing that with its little spindly legs that couldn't hurt anyone if it tried, so it's not threatening at all.
Offline
At that, Martin made sure to keep his lips shut tight. He didn't want the cricket getting in his mouth... somehow.
Why would he even think of that?
Offline
Dunno. The cricket's pretty far away from his face. It's kicking away just for...the kicks.
Ahahaha.
Offline
Now he turned to Kiaane while holding out the hand with the cricket on it.
"Do you want to hold it?"
Offline
Kiaane doesn't want to do anything, really--that's about the best way to put it, to be honest. Everything they do seems more like they need to do it. In this case, they never actually reject something a Thaohal member sticks in their direction. That's also the reason behind why they eat when someone catches them--they never say no. They just don't eat when no one catches them.
Obviously, with that line of logic, Kiaane unwittingly holds out a hand as if on pure impulse. Their face is just as inexpressive as usual, so if Martin had been someone else, it probably would've seemed like they were being forced or something.
Offline
Martin smiled.
He put his hand on Kiaane's and turned it slightly so the cricket would tumble into the intended place.
Offline
Kiaane freezes, either from the physical contact or from Martin's smile. It's probably a bit strange considering that that's not the first time either of those has happened in this day, or ever, but Kiaane's kind of strange like that. There's a noticeable amount of dilation in their eyes too, but it's gone within seconds as they take the cricket over, which is now half-scrambling. Or, it'd look like scrambling if it were to be on its legs instead of being there with its stomach upwards, but at the same time, it also doesn't seem like it wants to be back on its feet. Weirdo cricket.
Offline
"It likes you," he commented while stuffing his hand into his pocket.

Kiaane peers right back down at the cricket like they're skeptical of the idea or just are not familiar with the idea of anything or anyone liking them.
The cricket continues doing whatever it's doing. To be honest, it's kind of acting like a roly poly, minus the rolling-up part.

Is the cricket sill holding onto the apple?
Martin stretched a bit. He felt quite at ease for some reason, with the cricket and Kiaane and all.
Truth be told, that was the most attention he had received in a while, and he unashamedly liked it.
Offline
Yeah, the apple piece is on its abdomen. Hopefully that's what it's called.
"What does it want?" Kiaane asks slowly after the cricket continues kicking away for at least 30 seconds.
Offline
Martin leaned forward a bit. "Hey cricket, what do you want?"
Offline
The cricket stops kicking for 3 seconds then just kicks again.
Kiaane actually looks somewhat perplexed.
Offline
"What does that mean?"
Offline
Kiaane can't really translate unless the cricket chirps, but it's really not doing that.
To be honest, maybe it doesn't even know what it wants.
Offline
"Maybe it's exercising?" Martin suggested.
Offline
The narrator laughs.
"Perhaps," Kiaane responds, which makes their narrator laugh so hard they choke on cookie crumbs.
Offline
"That's good! They always say exercise makes you healthy, so the cricket is going to be healthy."
Offline
"It is already healthy," Kiaane corrects.
Offline
"But it can get more healthy, right?"
Offline
Kiaane stares at the cricket as if thinking hard about the question.
The cricket stops kicking to stare back at them. Maybe it's tired, or maybe it actually wants to stare back at Kiaane.
Offline
Martin joins the staring, but from another angle.
He's still amused. Mostly at the cricket, though, because he doesn't really feel Kiaane's behavior is strange.
Offline
The cricket proceeds to completely go limp as if playing dead...or falling fast asleep could be another interpretation. The apple piece would wobble precariously, but Kiaane's hand doesn't shake at all, it seems. It's like in their hand, the world is completely still and nothing need fear of the day they will fall.
Offline
"It went to sleep?" Martin tilted his head to the side. "I didn't know it was tired."
Offline
Kiaane opens their mouth slightly as if to say something but ends up closing it before even one sound can come out. They instead just continue to stare at the cricket.
Offline
"Maybe I could take a nap with the cricket," Martin said, thinking out loud and still looking intently at the cricke.
Offline
"Not practical here," Kiaane points out, actually kind of wisely. Wow, wisely as a word paired with Kiaane? Hard to get.
Offline
"Well, not here, maybe somewhere else! Cricket, are you tired?"
Offline
Well, if the cricket's playing dead, it's not gonna just stop playing dead to answer.
