Hey all,
So I was looking for uploaded images of mine to delete because they are sinful for any eye to behold and I saw that Wikia actually publicly discloses some information from devices that take pictures. It seems to depend on the image, and obviously I don't know what, but on an image I found information that could disclose my location, or at least, the city in which I live. It also disclosed the type of device I was using (which wasn't as serious, to be honest), but I have to admit, that location thing caught me by surprise.
I just wanted to note to please check images you upload for potentially personal information like location. I honestly was shocked (in not-a-good way) that the information I saw could be seen by anyone who clicked on the file to view it. If you see that information, please delete all content on the page and inform a mod/admin/staff member on the wiki who can delete images.
Anyways, yeah, that's all. Thanks for reading.

Checked as recommended.
My uploads don't seem to hold that much information, but I'll continue checking just in case.
From what I see, it depends on the device used to upload.

By the way, please refrain from checking others' images just in case.
I disagree at least to an extent. The picture from the device I used may have disclosed information, but other images from the same device didn't.

Checked all my image files, they're all good, but they're mostly all just screenshots or images taken from the internet
I don't think any of us have a reason to check the image files of others anyway

Hmmm, actually, to get to the image link, you need to check the file, and also, to protect (which we rarely do on the wiki) or delete (which we do frequently) images, we check the files...but yeah, I did say it's when you use the camera that the information usually is taken (well, I guess I only implied that with the word "taken",,, ah well), so from what your images usually are, I don't think it's much of an issue. Mostly I would guess it's a more concerning (idk if that's the word) issue for those who take many pictures of traditional art lol

Lol I have so many traditional arts on there rip me I guess, I'll check them all later

Ah....that's fun. I don't know why they decided to add that feature. I'll go check if I have any images I need to fix

I think Imma just get to removing my own things anyways yess

Okay, you probably shouldn't have a very hard time since you rarely post art, but haha, I'm guessing it might be easier for me to do lol

oh that is true
I don't think mine reveals too much info, so I'll just get removing...? idk, I'll have to look into stuff more.

Yeah, so in terms of quantity you have, like, less than 5 images per 500 xDDDD

Ok so how do I see info on the image

Also if an image doesn't reveal personal information, is it still recommended that it be removed?

I have same question

Idk if it's just me but I can't delete stuff
@Echo & Eliza, if you click on the image, it should takes you to the image's page.

From what I'm seeing, none of mine have my location on them (might be because I have my location on my phone off all the time lol) but I also can't delete them other than take them off my character pages

Only moderators and content mods can delete images iirc.

If you don't see personal information, it's not recommended for you to delete the image, but I understand different people may have different ways of thinking/going about this regardless of whether or not all images have that particular type of information there.

None of my stuff have personal information as far as I can tell, but it tells what camera I use and personally that makes me s little uncomfortable
@Spec, oooh, that would make sense.

what if images aren't on a page? [ie they were posted to a message wall and now we can't get to their source to mark for deletion] should we tag the file itself and mark for deletion?
Offline
@Xenon - You would need to go through the Image Activity tab to get to the source of the image. If you remember the titles/have them at hand, I believe you can search the title keywords in the search bar as well. I'm not too sure what you mean by tag the file; if you mean the image page itself, then yeah, edit it and put "{{Delete}}" on there. That way it's much easier to find

Hey, just so you guys know, if I come across an image that has the location information in it even if I'm not the uploader, I'm deleting it without notice unless you want to know.
I'm not going through the images, but for an image, I was looking for a reference for a certain character and the location information is there (the categories with the location information are there). As such, for that user, I will have to check every image and delete them. There are currently two users (both inactive) who seem to have that, but I assure you, I'm not going to use/remember the location information.
If I see a trend, I will let you know via private messaging or something else. Otherwise, if users with that trend are not active, I will try to reach out for them.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
