"Transfiguration."
Online!
"I wonder what that means," he said out loud, though it wasn't a direct question.
Offline
Kiaane, for once, takes it like a direct question and they say, "Positive transformation."
Online!
"Interesting!" Martin makes a mental note to read up on it later out of curiosity.
Offline
They make some noise of affirmation. Wow, they think something is interesting??? That's interesting.
Online!
"Do you know how to do it? It's the first time I've heard of it."
Offline
They nod slightly. Perhaps actually somewhat catching up to his mannerisms, they look for something to make an example out of. While they could very easily summon a rabbit or something, they refuse to do that. They settle with a twig that they're apparently keeping on them, holding it towards Martin.
Online!
Martin looked at the twig as if it was one of the most interesting things in the world. He very nearly grabbed it out of Kiaane's hand- but stopped a centimeter away or so.
"May I?" He asked, meaning if he could hold the twig.
Offline
They don't mind. Their hold on it loosens a bit.
Online!
Martin grabbed the stick. He looked at it to see if it was a normal one.
Offline
It's a bit dry, but yes, it's completely normal per se.
Online!
"Neat."
Martin bent the tip a little. He might be focused on the stick for a while.
Offline
Kiaane meant to demonstrate transfiguration, but that's fine too, since they look back at their books again.
Online!
What can the Narrator say, Martin likes sticks.
Offline
Well, have fun, Martin. Kiaane just moved on to another aisle.
Online!
A couple minutes later, Marting scurries over to Kiaane to return the stick.
"Here it is," he says with a smile. "Can you show me now?"
Offline
(Marting)
Takes Kiaane a moment to remember what they were going to show, but once they do remember, they take it. Their usual gray magic floats around the stick for a bit as it starts to transform into what looks kind of insect-shaped.
Online!
((Oh no I forgot to proofread again))
Martin's big eyes blinked in awe at the transformation.
Offline
It takes around 4 more seconds for it to become a cricket, basically, which promptly jumps into the nearest bookshelf.
Kiaane fishes it right back out. Apparently they don't want a cricket near the books.
Online!
"Ooh," Martin murmured. "Can I hold it?"
Offline
"Don't kill it," they say simply as they drop it into Martin's hands.
The cricket makes a slight buzzing sound, probably the start of a chirp in a place where it couldn't possibly find a mate.
Online!
Martin pokes it. He meant to try to pet it, but his finger slipped.
Offline
The cricket doesn't really like that. It skedaddles to another part of his hand.
Kiaane went back to not getting particularly distracted again.
Online!
((cricket go nyoom))
The boy tried to pet it again, this time more carefully with his pinky finger.
Offline
It kinda works this time. The cricket be suspicious of his poking though.
Online!
"Funny how you were a stick before, huh?" he says to the cricket, still trying to pet it.
Offline
The cricket just goes still and kind of relents to his petting, probably not wanting to be poked in the face or something.
Online!
After a little bit, Martin stops touching it and just lets it sit on his hand. He thinks the cricket's legs look vaguely like sticks.
Offline
Of course as soon as he lets it be it starts moving again. It just latched onto his sleeve, probably trying to get into the place, where it was darker.
Online!
Martin tried to catch it again by cupping a hand over the place the cricket was sitting on.
