Re: Time's Boardhost Homethread - Time's Boardhost Homethread

Guess what time is thinking off now? When you think you have it, see if you got it right!

*drumroll*

Dnd OGL 1.1. I don't know much on it, but it overall doesn't look too good for the community. It looks like everyone who plays WoTC games aren't happy with it. Maybe just people in the nerd community in general. I hope things work out one way or another. If it doesn't, I wonder what will happen to the sudden wave of new players that have been around for the past few years. The players that were brought in by the popular 3rd party content stuff like Critical Roll.

Did you know that I, Time, don't consider myself to be of the type of player that I am describing? Yes, I am young, but I have not watched critical roll, nor was introduced to ttrpgs through a similar sort of thing.

Actually, I think I'm going to wonder what's going to happen to the TTRPG community as a whole. Not just the new players. D&D is the scene's biggest player. Many stories, content, and even other large systems, like Pathfinder, would be in violation to the new OGL if the leaks stick. It's just something I am so uncertain, and admittedly, a bit worried about.

Now, you may not know what I'm talking about, so feel free to ignore, or to ask. Just relaying thoughts.

Re: Time's Boardhost Homethread - Time's Boardhost Homethread

I am admittedly not super well versed in what’s going on right now but as someone who has dabbled in DnD and was brought into it by 3rd party content creators, I’m genuinely not sure why WoTC decided to shoot themselves in the foot like three times in the past 18ish months and then insist on sticking to their guns. I’ve already seen a number of people throwing out loopholes and alternatives so it feels like all they’ve done is make their market more competitive. A lot of entities like Critical Role/Dimension 20/etc already only use DnD as a loose skeleton for what essentially amounts to collaborative storytelling, and both companies have strong enough players, DMs, and fanbases that they can absolutely pivot away from DnD IP if they want to

Re: Time's Boardhost Homethread - Time's Boardhost Homethread

If I have most of the story parts correctly, it's because of the money. Hasbro, WoTC, or both of them aren't doing too hot. They dropped something like 40% or so. So in return, they look to some of their biggest IPs (DnD, MtG) to try to squeeze out money from them, especially from DnD, since it's considered undermonitized, with much of the money flowing out into the community.

It sucks, but I wonder how else they could try to get money to stay afloat. I definitely feel that there could be better ways to do it than slap a royalty on nearly anything that is considered 3rd party dnd. In the end, the people that are losing overall are the customers. Less content, less community stuff. I can see why many consider this to be a huge slap in the face from WoTC/Hasbro. Though I think atm the OGL isn't active as of yet, and the only reason why this is known is due to leaks.

Yea ik Tiger is a forumer. He was one of my "forum siblings" or something.

Are you talking about the new account actually being tiger or something?

Re: Time's Boardhost Homethread - Time's Boardhost Homethread

I thought about how people draw stories from what they know and stuff or something like that

and then I realized the idea of the Flower Hunt must have been something I pulled off from Divinity Original Sin 2. Did I ever talk about that game here?

The story being of mortals fighting for the chance to become divine and to ascend.

Re: Time's Boardhost Homethread - Time's Boardhost Homethread

Congratulations! I'm sure you did well :D I'm just checking in on your homethread today but in regards to what you posted two days ago, I think yes, inspiration definitely comes from other places (consciously or unconsciously) and stuff we've seen. I don't think I've ever heard you mention the game though.

Yeah I hope I did well too

Huh. Must be like my art thread too. I always think I posted art and I realized I never did and just had the stuff saved.

Well, I found it to be a pretty good game. I think I need to replay it at some point at a harder difficulty or something so I get to learn the combat system more. It's also co-op, which is a rare thing for isometric rpgs. I don't have anyone else that I think would be interested in playing it but me, but it would be fun to see how that would go out.

I am thinking. I am thinking very much.

I think I need to go on a character training arc. It's going to be hard starting it though.

I say character training arc because I am specifically talking about training of the personality.
