Martin flipped the pages in hopes he'd find another picture.
Offline
He does! He finds a picture of a young woman in plain clothes with a cloak.
Offline
After admiring the picture for a minute or so, Martin checked to see if he could read anything describing the picture.
Offline
There's only a simple word captioning that photo, curiously, to the side.
" E E" is what's readable.

Martin gave a slight pout, since he couldn't read that.
The pictures were interesting though... and he turned the page(s) until he got to the next one.
Offline
The next picture seems to be of the same person, though she seems to have been changed. It's like the art style completely swapped, and if Martin could read the pages, perhaps the story would have seemed changed as well. Regardless, it's clear that it's still her, with faded silhouettes of others in the background.
Offline
He thought the drawing made her look pretty. Martin wondered if the figures behind the girl were her family or group. Kind of like his own. Maybe.
After admiring the picture again, he turned the pages.
Offline
Funnily enough, the next picture is still with her being changed into another style, though this time her back is turned. The only consistency is perhaps her general presence. The blurred marks are still there, this time by effect of varied cross-hatching.
The setting seems to be at a harbor, as a faint outline of a ship resides beyond her view.
Offline
Martin does not know what kind of story the pictures are telling. He still thinks that they're very pretty though.

The cricket chirps in his sleeve again as if to announce the fact Kiaane's nearing where Martin is again.
Honestly, the narrator's not sure if the cricket's trying to tell Kiaan that Martin exists here as well or trying to tell Martin that Kiaane's coming back.
Offline
"Hey little guy," Martin muttered as he turned his attention to his sleeve. "Hungry?"
Offline
The cricket just chirps a bit more before quieting again, settling down in its original position.
Offline
Sadly, Martin does not understand cricket talk yet.
He peered inside his sleeve.
Offline
The cricket kinda peers back at him, but it's mostly still in the fold of his sleeve.
Offline
He left it there to be comfortable.
Martin closed the book and stood up, taking it with him. "Kiaane?" He called out.
Offline
Martin has Kiaane's attention but not Kiaane's response, which is not planned to be formulated anytime soon. That is to say--Kiaan's looking in his general direction but is not responding.
The cricket chirps as if to provide emphasis.
Offline
"This book is really fun!" Martin skittered up to Kiaane and held up the book. "It has pretty pictures!"
Offline
Kiaan seems to recognize it immediately, since they just keep their gaze on it as soon as they look whatever is visible to them. If they didn't recognize it, they would have tried to walk around it to look at more details.
Offline
"There was a pretty lady drawn in it too!" He kept the book up, probably expecting Kiaane to grab it. "Have you seen it before? I can't read it."
Offline
Kiaan does not grab it, but they do nod.
Offline
"Have you read it?"
He's getting tired of holding the book, but he still doesn't drop it.
Offline
They just nod again.
Offline
Martin let his arms drop backward a little. "What does it say? I only saw pictures. I can't read it."
Offline
Kiaane answers the question with "it" being the title. "Beauty and the Beast." It seems a tad bit weird to hear them say both words.
Offline
"That's the title?" Martin turned the book to see the cover. "Can you tell me what it's about?"
Offline
"Beauty," Kiaane explains thoroughly, pointing to the cover, "and the Beast."
Wow. 10/10. Nobel Prize for best explanation.
Offline
"What happens to Beauty and to the Beast?" He continued questioning, curious to know.
Offline
The cricket chirps.
"They..." Kiaane is struggling a lot. "...marry."
Ok, yeah, but like, that's the conclusion.
Offline
"They marry?" Martin sounds confused. "Why does she marry a beast?"
Offline
Kiaan's not one to put spoiler warnings in their dialogue, and they're also not one to answer questions very properly. "The Beast was cursed."
