it's got all the benefits of a polearm, plus it looks cool, and will probably have more weight on the swinging strike

the next step up is a scythe, but the scythe is more complicated to use

Can a flag be properly used as a weapon? Or is it overall detrimental? I would think the extra fabric drags it down.

Should you just use a polearm? Or its it ok to use a flag?

if you add a sharp tip a flag could be definitely be used for thrust attacks. the fabric doesn't do much so long as you're not stabbing in a direction where the wind could wave the flag part and mess with the direction of it

It makes makes me think did standard bearer have any fighting techniques with their banner? I would think not since they always have to hold it up.

But also I would think it would suck fighting with only a one handed weapon and having to carry a giant flag in the other.

I dunno about other countries but in Ancient China, there were war policies against fighting with the flag guys (and drum guys)

I would think that would be similar in other regions as well, but its possible that those rules were discarded/ignored because taking out whoever held the flag would hamper enemy moral and communications. That and also fog of war usually results in stuff like that.

like you're an ancient chinese warrior about to commit a warcrime but then you get beat up by the flag guy
