"Book clubs... I haven't been in one for so long..." Calix muttered, bringing his hand up to his chin in thought. "Maybe I should join one again sometime."
Offline
"What I said applies to you too, good sir," Iollan tells Calix with a very momentary pause in his walking pattern as he steps a bit to the side. "Don't let him recruit ya."
Offline
"Surely it can't be terrible," Calix said. "Although, I suppose I should focus on teaching for this time of the year for now."
Offline
"Is he really that passionate about books?" Germaine asked (about Hitan), as if she hadn't seen his attitude back in the teacher's room.
Offline
"He's a fanatic," Iollan affirms. "I'm sure people would even say that the love of his life are books, but she's actually in this school."
...
IOLLAN--
Offline
Germaine nodded along to the first part of what Iollan said. Then she stopped to look at him with mild disbelief showing on her face.
I guess they're probably at the gym doors by now?
Offline
Iollan grins back at her impishly.
Dunno. Seems like a kinda short conversation in the narrator's experience, but probably better for the sake of moving things forward.
Offline
Calix asked, "Oh? Is Hitan married to a lady in the school?"
Instead of going through the doors, Apollo runs into the wall. He blinked a few times before talking to the wall awkwardly.
"Huh! Well, sorry Mr. Wall! I got lost in space again!"
Offline
"Oh no," Iollan answers, dragging out the "no" a bit for emphasis. "He's way too young to be married."
Wonder how the teachers would respond if the wall says "It's fine."
Offline
"Oh, a girlfriend then?"
They would probably be weirded out.
Offline
"Still too young for that. Mentally, I mean," Iollan adds. "Though I personally would think that our students are too young even for that type of relationship. Perhaps I'm too conservative in that matter?" He shrugs, unbothered by the notion despite having suggested it.
Offline
"Oh? A romantic crush then?" Calix wondered.
Offline
"Yes." He grins at the "romantic" part. "Good addition. Yes, not a hammer."
Offline
"Love can be a good thing..." Germaine mused. "Good for him," she ended brightly.
Offline
"I'll have you know the first part sounds slightly ominous," he goes, still grinning. "But yes, good for him. How good it is to be young."
Iollan,,, stop giving others reason for them to say you give off dad vibes.
Offline
Calix slightly nodded, thinking.
Between the time Apollo ran into the wall and now, he had entered the gym.
Offline
Germaine also agreed with Iollan's last comment. "Of course, and not only for us, but for our students as well. It's the perfect age for them to learn new things and improve as people."
She'd taken a few steps into the gym too.
Offline
The doors to the gym had been left open. If Iollan were actually hoarding snacks in there, he does a really bad job of hoarding.
The wooden floor of the gym seems very polished and clean, but there are no cautionary signs in sight. Presumably, that means it's already dried. The lighting in the place is nice and bright, too, but not too bright. There's a rock-climbing wall on the opposite end and a few carts with equipment in them pushed against the wall, perhaps to decrease the amount of visible space taken in the gymnasium.
"Everyone, welcome to my lair!" the physical education teacher enthuses.
Offline
"Ah, it's very nice. Looks like they've got new equipment since the last time I was here," Calix said, observing the gym.
Apollo had taken immediate interest in the rock climbing wall. He didn't run up to it in excitement or do anything childish like that, and he's trying really hard to not make it look like he's eyeing it.
Offline
Meanwhile, Iollan eyes Apollo's footwear. Actually, he eyes everyone's footwear. You know, since it'd be a horrible idea--and an irresponsible one--for him to bring in someone wearing glass slippers into a shiny polished gym. Bad for both knees and floor. But he reckons he would've seen glass slippers...but anyways, just in case.
Offline
Apollo is wearing newer-looking tennis shoes. They're cyan and purple, and the laces were tied like he was in a hurry. It contrasts his teacher's uniform pretty noticeably.
Calix is wearing nice dress shoes. They're polished and probably comfortable, but they wouldn't be good to wear for running or anything like that.
Offline
Germaine focused on the room's general neatness. The clean floor, the good lighting...she nodded silently while looking around.
She's wearing black sandals, by the way.
Offline
The rock climbing wall is covered, actually.
"Thanks for your approval," Iollan says to both Calix and Germaine, having noted her nonverbal approval as well. "Nice shoes, too," he says, this time to all. His audience is indicated by who he attempts to make semi-eye contact with. "Apollo, want to see the wall uncovered?" he adds with an easy smile.
Offline
Apollo answers a little too quickly. "Yes! Uh, please. Yea."
Offline
"Alright. Lights..." Iollan eyes the lights. "Cameras...action." He snaps his fingers.
And for one instant, nothing happens. But then the covering starts getting rolled up.
Wow!
Offline
Apollo's eyes light up excitedly. He is amazed by the curtain lifting seemingly by itself.
Offline
"Ooh," whispered Germaine. "An impressive reveal!"
Offline
What's there to describe about a rock-climbing wall? Well, it's supposed to be prestigious. The narrator has no idea what one of those look like. But it's clean, and it looks new. For the second one, it's not really. At the very top, there's kind of a handle sort of mechanism, probably for activity-related things.
The rocks are nice. The narrator will give it that.
Iollan winks at Germaine in response. Uh, in a non-flirtatious way. For some reason, the narrator always feels the need to clarify on actions like that.
Offline
Calix gave a small clap of approval.
Apollo didn't make any movement towards the rock wall despite how badly he wanted to climb it. He probably shouldn't try to climb it, anyway, considering that he probably needs to be more professional. Apollo definitely still has that awe-struck look on his face, though.
Offline
"If you want, we can come back here later," Iollan tells Apollo. "I figure it'd be fitting to give the wall a test climb. But I don't want to waste Germaine's and Calix's time at the moment, especially since they would probably be tantalized by you climbing while they have on unfitting shoes for climbing," the teacher observes.
