"They ate a lot of food," Kaori explains. He grins. "We would think about it as weird, because when we eat too much we can't move, right? But since they're moving a lot, they're expending all the energy they consumed."
...wow, he's a nerd. I can see where Hitan got that same quality from, yes.

Francis' face brightened; he absorbed the new information like how a sponge absorbs water.
"Wow... that's so amazing!" Francis nodded, encouraging Kaori to tell him more. He looked like a little kid hearing something for the first time, which makes sense because he's seventeen and constantly searching for more and more knowledge.
Offline
Bruh, he's listening to someone who has the equivalent school experience as a pre-teen, possibly a bit younger.
"Hmmm...but how long do you think it's been since they first emerged from their cocoons?"
Offline
Dude, Francis graduated high school years early so he assumes that if someone knows knowledge he doesn't, they are smarter than him lol.
"Oh, uhm..." Francis paused from painting for a moment to think, bringing a hand up to his face in the middle of his thinking process. He accidentally smudged a pretty shade of green paint on his face, which Francis doesn't notice.
"I don't know much about butterflies and their life spans, but I would say... maybe a day? Wait, no, two days?"
Francis nodded (oh gods, paint smeared more on his cheek from the tip of his brush) as if locking in his answer.
"Yeah, two days, I would guess."
Francis went back to painting after giving his answer.
Offline
"Well, then maybe they are getting to somewhere where they can eat again!" Kaori guesses with a smile.
Offline
"I hope they have a really good meal!" Francis nodded. "And then they can continue flying, right? Or do butterflies need sleep?"
Offline
"Yeah, they do! Monarchs are diurnal, so they'll sleep during the night. Maybe together? I don't know. Anyways, they sleep with their eyes open," Kaori informs, "because they don't have eyelids."
Offline
"Whoa..."
Francis, in stereotypical description, has stars in his eyes. It's amazing of how expressive he is with his face because he seems to just get more and more excited.
"I wonder what butterflies dream about."
Francis knows that butterflies don't exactly "dream", but it's such a splendid, childish thought that he couldn't help but voice it. Of course, like most of the time, Francis doesn't think though his thoughts but rather says what first comes to mind.
Offline
"I don't know either. Maybe someone could make a butterfly communicator to ask them."
Offline
Francis gasped, "That would be amazing! They all must have so many stories from traveling, so many things they must have seen! So beautiful... it's sounds so beautiful!"
Offline
"Yeah," Kaori agrees with a nod. "But maybe it'd be better to experience it personally instead of just hearing about it. Well, to visit the places we as humans can get to, anyways."
Offline
Francis asked, "Have you been to any interesting places?"
Offline
"Yeah!" he answers. "I haven't been to many, but every place is an interesting place."
Wow, I didn't call him a nerd for no reason.
Offline
Francis gasped, "Ooh! That's so cool, though! Can you tell me about them, like in detail and stuff?"
Offline
"You mean the places? I haven't been to many places, meaning," Kaori admits, "just my homeplace and here."
Offline
"What's your homeplace like?" Francis asked, assuming that "homeplace" means something like hometown or area.
Offline
"It's like a city, I guess," Kaori starts. "It's kind of an accustomed world."
Offline
"Accustomed?"
Offline
"Yeah," he reaffirms with a nod.
Offline
Francis somewhat blushed before asking, "Uhm, sir, I'm not quite sure of what that word means in that sense. I know that for something to 'become accustomed' means that it becomes familiar with something, but I am not sure what it means by 'an accustomed world'. Do you mean that the place feels familiar to you in a sense or something?"
Offline
Kaori blushes in response to the "sir" thing. "Oh, I just mean it's an usual one. Nothing really changes there, so everyone is accustomed to it in a sense."
Offline
"Ohhh! Okay, thank you," Francis nodded. "Cities are cool!"
Offline
Yay for blushes fading quickly. "Where do you hail?" he asks.
Offline
"Out around the more country side," Francis replied. "My parents have a farm out there and stuff! I live in an apartment at the moment in a city over, but I visit my parents often so... I guess I originate from the country side, but I currently live in a city, yea? I'm not quite sure how to respond when both areas feel like home."
Francis was grinning, thinking about his adoptive parents.
Offline
"It must be nice to have more than one home," Kaori says, then adds thoughtfully, "I guess I always have had more than one home, though. So, you didn't really move when you were a kid?"
Offline
Francis hesitated, thinking of how to answer that. Not that it was a hard question, it was just that it really depended on if switching from multiple children's homes counted as "moving". After being adopted he didn't move any... but then again before going into a children's home he had moved places quite often...
"...Uh, only a little," Francis quickly said, nodding slightly as he decided his answer was good enough.
"Yeah, only a little."
Offline
"Ah, okay," Kaori conveys understandingly.
Offline
Francis tried to think of something positive from his experiences.
"Uhh... Oh! I have meet multiple people throughout my life. Especially after starting painting commissions! Mmm-hmm! I travel a bit from place to place in that sense, but I'm never gone from my home for more than three days. And I guess I travel around to find painting inspiration too."
Francis was almost done painting. Hmm, he seemed to be going slow, though. He must have been enjoying talking to Kaori a lot.
Offline
He nods. "How much do commissions cost?"
Offline
"Depends. My range is around fifty to seventy five dollars," Francis answered.
He quickly added, "But this one is free! No charge! You already paid with your time and a pleasant conversation!"
