"Erm... I don't think it's boring, though..."
Offline
"You think, you think. After a while, you'll discover your preferences. Perhaps they'll stay the same."
Amar sat straighter, maybe getting ready to stand up. "I wonder if you'll love 'nice smiles' forever. That is something I would like to see!"
Offline
Adrik thought for a moment before saying, "I hope I like smiles forever. It brings me a warm feeling... well, a feeling close to warm. I'm a robot, of course, so I'm not quite sure what 'warm' is, other than a 'good feeling'." Adrik then giggled. "I like to think I will enjoy nice things when I'm older. What things do you enjoy?"
Offline
"Things you probably would not enjoy."
Offline
"Huh? I'm curious to know!" Adrik smiled encouragingly. He looks so pure and innocent, so gentle and welcoming. He doesn't have the slightest clue of anything.
Offline
Very sadly, Amar doesn't feel sympathy for the robot boy's innocence even though he can see it. He doesn't think it's funny now. He just wanted to see a reaction, whatever it may be.
"Have you seen the faces of people as they're dying? When things do not go according to their plan? When their destiny is twisted into the opposite of what they desire? Is there anything more delightful than causing those situations yourself and watching the results unfold?" A blissful smile spread on the demigod's face, completely genuine. "And that's just a fraction of what I like. At times, death can get repetitive and dull. So..." The phrase was dropped there.
"But that is not something you understand, correct?"
Offline
Adrik's smile wavered for a second. Then it fell as what Amar said fully registered. His eyes widened, sudden fear showing.
"I... I, uhm... death... uhm..."
HDK entered the room, holding a tray of tea and cookies.
HDK looked to Adrik and said, "Adrik, grab your book and leave, please. Go to your room."
Adrik stared at Amar, but quickly moved and grabbed a book from the bookshelf without checking to see what it was about. He quickly walked out, nervousness showing in his body language. He took one last glance before completely leaving.
HDK set the tea tray down on a nearby table.
"Sorry for the wait. Care for some tea?"
Offline
Amar was grinning like a Cheshire cat (tbh his smile shouldn't be that wide, that's strange). He waved at Adrik as he left.
When HDK set down the tray, Amar jumped up with complete cheerfulness.
"Why, if it isn't the Half-Divine Killer! I'm so pleased to be your guest, and worry not for the wait!" He looked rather excited. "Since I'm a demigod, will you try to kill me? Right now!?"
The last sentences have too much enthusiasm in them.
Offline
HDK shook his head.
"I'm sorry, but I have not been given orders to do so. As well, your death would be meaningless if I did not do my usual ritu... my usual experiment and testing. I would prefer to not kill on my day off, especially if I have not been co... sorry, if I have not scheduled it. I'm a busy man, you see, so my days off are very important to me."
Too many slip-ups. He must have his mind on something else.
"But feel free to relax. I bring no harmful intentions, but rather... just tea. I'm not sure what kind of you tea like, but I made green tea. I hope it is to your liking."
Offline
"Awwww, that's... that's not as fun as what I was expecting," he whined. "I wanted something more like attempted cold-blooded murder! ...But I'll settle for tea. It can't be that bad."
Amar carefully sat down again.
"You schedule murders? Is it possible to make a personal reservation?"
Offline
HDK brought a teacup of tea over to Amar, as well as a sugar cookie and a napkin.
HDK somewhat laughed. His laugh was pretty, almost like a small bird.
"Oh, no, sir. My work doesn't quite... well, work that way, I'm afraid."
Offline
"Thank you." Amar took the three objects with grace, his expression more composed now. "Well, that's fine. It's not very fun to get murdered when you know it's going to happen. That completely lacks the element of surprise!"

"I suppose so. May I ask, please do not take offense, of what you are doing here? I will assume it's about the alliance dinner?"
Offline
"Exactly. As the invitation did not include an ending time or date, I decided to make the most of my time here! Eventually, I'll have to leave as well."
Offline
HDK laughed again before saying, "You are a smart man. Is there something specific you wish to discuss?"
Offline
"Maybe there is." Amar took a sip of his tea. "But the topic may come later. First, please tell me more about your work."
Offline
"My work? Hm, which part of it would you like for me to talk about?"
Offline
((I'm very tempted to reply just "yes" to your post xD))
"Let's begin... no, you tell me this: what is your favorite part about your 'work'?"
Offline
"My... favourite part? That's a strange question." HDK thought for a moment. "To be truthful, I don't quite like any of it, so I would say 'not being there', but I feel like that wouldn't be a satisfactory answer. So, I suppose my 'favourite part' would be documenting. I always liked graphing and looking through data, as well as writing paragraphs upon paragraphs. Hmm... Is that a good answer?"
Offline
Amar didn't answer right away. Instead, he focused on finishing the last of the tea in his cup, an action that almost took too long (or seemed like it).
Finally, he returned his attention to HDK. "So your favorite part is documenting. Hmm... you didn't reply with as much enthusiasm as I had expected."
The demigod set his cup at the side. "I guess I should have expected that when you mentioned you 'don't quite like any of it'."
Offline
"Ha... I'm sorry I am not of what you had expected," HDK said. "Would you like more tea?"
Offline
"Yes, please." Amar extended his teacup for HDK to refill it.
"Do not be sorry for not being what I expected! I find it interesting. I suppose that you are currently enjoying your day off."
Offline
HDK carefully refilled it, somehow being very elegant while doing so.
"Yes, very. It's relaxing to be home."
Offline
"Of course. Who wouldn't be, with a mansion as wonderful as this one? I'm sure it has everything you could want. Thank you."
The last part was added when HDK finished refilling the cup. Amar took it to his lips.
Offline
HDK nodded slightly.
"This may sound a bit strange, but what is your favourite tea?"
Offline
"Mmmm... hard choice. See, I do not drink tea very often. Jasmine tea might be one of my favorites."
Offline
"I will make sure to stock up on that one, then. Are there any other beverages, oh, also foods, you enjoy?"
Offline
"Poison is out of the question, I guess," Amar muttered to himself and shrugged.
He grinned at HDK. "I don't eat often either. If you truly wish to treat me to dinner, then, by all means, surprise me."
Offline
HDK nodded slightly.
"Do you have any other questions you wish to ask me about my work?"
Offline
"If I did, your sophisticated hospitality has caused them to slip from my mind."
Amar offered a grin once again as he lowered his teacup in order to focus on the cookies.
